KayKay -- Our Newest Permanent Resident
KayKay's Dad passed away after months in a hospital care center. KayKay is feather destructive, a mutilator, and considered "a biter." His Dad discussed sending him to me several times because I know how to deal with these issues and have been successful with every bird in my care so far. Unfortunately, we were in the middle of our move when he died. His executor found our conversation in Michael's phone and gave me a call. After I explained what Michael wanted for KayKay it was agreed that he should be sent to us on Alaska Airlines. Yes, this beautiful life was living in Alaska.
The weather was bad and setting a time for the flight was difficult but perhaps this video will explain it all better than words can.

KayKay was a surprise in more than one way. While in a meeting with our board members KayKay was on my lap. I was petting "him" and "he" began to vibrate. Anyone who knows Umbrella Cockatoos knows what that means. We are all immediately aware that KayKay is female. We did not see it first, though. The reactions of Lauralei and Cozzi were not of interest in KayKay, rather they started acting with territoriality.
KayKay is fitting in nicely. No biting and no self-destructive behavior. She is on Haldol, of course. She was before she came to our Sanctuary. She is a sweetheart and we are glad to have her!
